One magical change that would instantly transform Scottish football

The Tam Cowan 'Off the Ball' Podcast recently asked what would be one change you could make for Scottish football to transform it.

The answer to this is very simple.

The answer is to scrap income tax for all footballers in Scotland.

In other words, to make an 'EBT' system legal for all clubs in Scotland.

It was widely known that when Rangers were doing this (liquidated in 2012 for David Murray doing this illegally), they made Stefan Klos one of the best paid players in the UK, and he was being paid more than David Beckham.

For a Scottish football club to be paying a player more than David Beckham was being paid at that time (Beckham was deemed the best midfielder in the 99/00 Champions League & a commercial icon) shows the immense power of this system!

Deploying this system could level out the TV money the big 5 leagues get, and allow Scottish clubs to suddenly be competitive for players.

Everyone knows, this is basically financial doping, or financial steroids, whatever you want to call it, and it works fantastically well instantaneously like magic!

Everyone knows the TV money of the big 5 leagues is so unfair, and this change would suddenly make football fair again, just like it was in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

With one simple stroke of the pen, every single football club in Scotland would have their wage bill doubled, and Scottish clubs could be competitive in Europe again like they were in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

It would mean Celtic would suddenly be competitive with the top clubs in Europe for players (and theRangers would be too) - the only ones they wouldn't be would be the powerhouse elite clubs like Bayern Munich, Man City, Barcelona etc.

It would mean that clubs like Dundee United, Hearts, Aberdeen, and Hibs would suddenly be competitive with the top English Championship clubs for player recruitment, and with perhaps a 50-1 chance of winning the SPFL rather than 1000-1.

Celtic winning the Champions League would be realistic - it would be a 20-1 chance rather than a 100-1 (or perhaps 1000-1) like it is currently.

Whisper it, but it is politics, its snobbery towards football & the 'working class' of Scotland (if that still exists in the modern first world), which is the only thing holding Scottish football back.

Politics in Scotland are also scared of the big 5 leagues & upsetting the status quo.

The question is: is there the political will? Scottish football clubs contribute a negligible amount to the public purse, but make a massive difference psychologically, so it is viable if the right people were voted into power.

The irony of this being introduced legally, when David Murray (Craig Whyte scapegoat) got Rangers got liquidated for doing this, would also be 'lie back belly laugh' hilarious! For that reason alone it should be introduced!
