Exciting transfer rumours for Celtic: 6 U23 players being linked in the January 2025 transfer window
It's the January window & the Celtic targets rumour-mill has been turned on at full blast.
Here are the 6 most exciting players 23 & under who Celtic have been linked with in this January 2025 transfer window.
1. Mathias Kvistgaarden
22 year old Danish U21 international forward. Can play as a striker but can also drop deep to attacking midfielder or winger & be a scorer of great goals, so looks an all-round quality player. Coming into the last 2 years of his contract in the summer & has an expressed a desire to potentially move abroad, which means Brondby might be looking to cash in. 55 goal involvements in 110 appearances for Brondby, along with 9 goal involvement in 20 appearances for Denmark U21, is an excellent pedigree.
2. Mateusz Bogusz
Signed for Leeds as ‘boy wonder’ as part of the Marcelo Bielsa scouting network, amassing around 50 caps for Polish youth teams, u21’s etc, then got a knee injury which derailed him. Rebuilt his career in Liga 2 in Spain with solid displays there, then moved to the MLS last season where he blossomed with 31 goal involvements in 48 games. This was recognised by him getting 2 caps for Poland. Scorer of great goals & a real flair-player. Recommend his highlight reel on YouTube – he is the MLS Kevin Debruyne!
3. Lennon Miller
We all know a lot about Miller having watched him on many occasions for Motherwell. He is quite simply an all-round excellent midfield player – sharp on the ball & can make assists, but can also do the defensive side of the game as well as make headers, with exceptional athleticism. Also seems very level-headed & Motherwell captain. You could see him easily slotting into the Celtic midfield. You just never know when signing an SPFL player if they will make the jump up to Celtic level – he could be a David Turnbull & be good, or could be like an Andy Robertson at Liverpool & absolutely sky-rocket in quality when training & playing with better players. Is out injured for 6 weeks so this may scupper a move away this window though…
4. Bazoumana Toure
18 year old Ivory Coast Toure winger has 13 goal involvements in 23 appearances in the Swedish League. Toure is being linked with Brighton, and there is real potential there. Very exciting player with another dazzling YouTube highlight reel! If Toure can convert that potential into goals & assists will be a future superstar, but he still hasn’t reached that 50-100 stage where you can really judge how good he is, but by then other big clubs could be out-bidding us, which is the classic conundrum faced.
5. Andreas Schjelderup
43 goal involvements in 94 games for Nordsjaelland at the age of 19 saw Benfica snap him up for £11m. Already has a cap for a really strong Norway international team. Has only played 70 minutes of football this season for Benfica though. Schjelderup has massive potential, and if he could get a run of regular appearances he could develop into an absolute baller. Loan with option to buy for £10m would be great business.
6. James McAtee
McAtee has only just turned 22 and already has 28 goal involvements in 90 games in the English Premiership, English Championship, FA Cup & League Cup. Has barely played for Man City this season however, so is being linked with moves away. This would be a really top signing if we could pull this off, and he might be attracted by the prospect of playing European football at Celtic having played in the Champions League this season for Man City, but ominously also being linked with Fulham.
Conclusion
These are all extremely exciting players who could really enhance our quality! I don’t expect any happen to this January, but I think is a definite possibility for the summer, especially if we were to qualify for the Champions League & were able to make a marquee signing or two. The one who seems most possible this window would be Schjelderup – that’s my tip to keep an eye on & what a fantastic signing on a loan with option to buy that would be!
