Vintage Celts

Celtic beat St Johnstone 4:0 in the SPFL on the 29th of December.

This really was a Formula 1-esque from the Celts who were like sports-cars as they blew their opponents St Johnstone away!

The combinations all over the park were outstanding, with perhaps none more so than Arne Engels & Paulo Bernardo. When the Celtic faithful saw that Callum MacGregor was not in the team, it did draw a slight 'Uh-oh', however Engels' & Bernardo's interchanges in the number 6 & number 8 positions were superb - they were a fantastic partnership.

That said, great credit has to be given to Reo Hatate & Nicolas Kuhn who put in world-class maverick performances.

You could really have picked any of those 4 players for 'man of the match'.

It was also encouraging to see Hyun-jun Yang linking up so well with Alex Valle overlapping. It perhaps looks like Yang's strength may be his secondary assist - to do his dribbles & runs drawing defenders out, then slot in full-backs, midfielders, and forwards to play the final assist.

The back 4 of Schmeicel, CCV, Scales, and Johnston were stellar as well.

The substitutes then all came off the bench pumped up & ready to make an impact in the game, which is greatly encouraging for the team spirit.

The day was all about Kyogo Furuhashi though! With his headed goal he moved onto 100 goal contributions over the past 3 and a half seasons, and his second goal took him onto 101 goal contributions!

When you think back to Kyogo's first goal with his lovely dinked chip against Jablonek in the Czcech Republic Europa League qualifier, all the way through his time, what a superstar Kyogo has been! He undoubtedly has been the best striker since Henrik Larsson - they share the same passion for scoring & it is such a joy to see!

Kyogo has scored all types of goals at all levels of the game - 3 long-range rockets in the Glasgow derby, a superb goal against Ferencvaros in the Europa League, goals at the elite level of the Champions League versus Lazio & Atletico Madrid, poacher's goals, not to mention all his goals at Hampden in semi-finals & finals, as well as his ability to drop deep and play in his team-mates. Kyogo has been sensational!

There is a however still a long way to go in this season, and we hope that we can see many more special moments from this amazing striker and great group of players!
